VERY Important Message
As you may know, Howie had a little colic episode Monday. I stayed up with him, (and friends stayed up at home worrying about him) gave him pain killers, walked and worried over him, and today he's much better. I had just assumed it was "one of those colics," which we have been AMAZINGLY free of for a very long time, and still could well be...
But I just had a student tell me that she overheard someone was giving Howie Frosted Flakes. I NEED EVERYONE TO KNOW NOT TO DO THIS! This could very well be what impacted him, as horses do not tolerate cereal well. PLEASE tell your rider NOT to give horses anything but carrots, apples and approved horse cookies, and then ONLY in moderation. No more than, lets say... 10 cookies, all the carrots they want, and only 1 apple.
Also, you to know that I found this out by actually doing it once myself, about 15 years ago. Who would think? I figured, grains... all stuff horses eat... but no... is very very bad for them. Was an honest and well intended mistake, and I'm sure Howie LOVED them, but its like oatmeal and it binds up really really badly.
Again, PLEASE do not feed the horses anything but approved snacks.
Thank you,
a very tired Rb
