What to Expect at Lessons ...
The Curriculum of the Bridges Equestrian Program changes constantly. You, as a new student, can expect to begin with basic familiarization with the horse and equipment.
You will be matched to a horse with a suitable temperament and size for your ability and stature. You will not always have this same horse, as we find students learn well by being exposed to different challenges.
Let's Start Riding
You will be riding from your first lesson. Bridges Equestrian takes a "holistic" approach to riding, so you will be exposed to a great deal your first lessons. It won't start to sink in until the third or fourth, so don't get discouraged. Lesson by lesson, the soreness will go away, and little things will fall into place. You WILL get your heels down, you WILL get your leg back, and you WILL stop that infernal bouncing! Like any sport, it just takes a little practice, a little determination and a little time.
Your First Lesson
Your first lesson you will be learning to move the horse forward (forward transitions), stop and slow down (downward transitions), turn right and left, back-up (rein back), walk and trot. You will begin to learn a little about how the horse thinks and to what he or she responds.
And Many More Lessons ...
In subsequent lessons, you will move into more complicated moves, and refine and tune those basic skills. Students who wish to go on to jumping will, although some prefer to keep at least some feet on the ground at all times. Our goal is to see you progress to YOUR goals. Our goal is simply to bridge that gap between you and the horse, and good horsemanship.
